The apprenticeship program can provide you with, a high paying, rewarding job, great benefits, and an Associates Degree (equal to two years) in Applied Science from IVY Tech college!  As an apprentice you will get paid while you learn!


 

 

What do apprentices do?

If you are accepted into the program, you will be dispatched into the field when the first Iron Worker Apprentice job becomes available.  Local Union #22 covers an approximated 2/3 of the state of Indiana and parts of Illinois. You will work & learn on the job, as the Forman or Journeymen see fit.  This may include, but is not limited to- reinforcing steel, rebar work, structural erection, heavy lifting, finishing work, sheeting, welding, maintenance, rigging, post-tensioning., cutting, general assistance., etc.    In addition, apprentices attend some special training administered by the Union & some courses taught by a professor from IVY Tech.

 

 

How long does it take?

The apprenticeship program is completed in 4 years.  It is geared toward teaching you all of the processes of the valuable trade of iron working.  Upon completion, you will become a  Ironworker Journeyman.  Statistics show that approximately 90% of the apprentices complete the apprenticeship program.

 

 

Who should apply?

                        If you are 18 years of age

                        Birth certificate

                        Have a high school diploma or GED (including documentation of scores)

                        Have a valid Indiana driver's license

                        Are in good physical condition & able to pass a drug test

                        Have reliable transportation

                        Are dependable & hardworking
